Project Info.

We rarely see what runs the world. Rare earth minerals — neodymium, tantalum, dysprosium — sit inside mountain rock and clay deposits, unglamorous and unannounced. Without them, nothing modern functions. They are the hidden foundation of everything we have built. Terms of Contact began as a conceptual question: what do these materials actually look like? Each image was built through detailed research, considered art direction, and AI generation as the execution layer. Eight stills sitting somewhere between sculpture, still life, and material study. Hard against hard. Ancient against engineered. The future in plain sight. Official Selection 2026 AIMA AI Master Award / Conceptual & Fine Art

Rare earth minerals are the hidden foundation of modern life. Neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, tantalum. Without them, nothing modern functions. And yet little in modern culture acknowledges them. They underpin everything we build technologically and remain entirely outside visual culture. Terms of Contact began as an attempt to represent them — and the role they play in every aspect of our modern lives. The concept was built on a single tension: geological raw form against processed industrial object. Ancient against engineered. That contrast became both the subject and the structure of every image. AI generation was the execution layer, not the shortcut. Dozens of images generated across varied compositions, material pairings, and elemental combinations. Each one researched, directed, and curated with editorial rigour. Eight selected. Each one a quiet argument for looking more closely at what the world is actually made of.
